First front cover anaylsis

Front Cover Anaylsis

-Masthead:
The Masthead ‘Billboard’ has been written in a bold and simple font and is in the colour black, this is linking to the black and grey colour scheme of the whole cover, in some of the gaps of the letters are coloured blue and yellow this being used in every Billboard magazine. Although this time the whole mast head isn’t visible due to it being covered by the main image, it shows how this is a easily recognised magazine by the person buying it.

-Colour Scheme:
The use of the black, grey and white makes the front cover look more professional, this is ironic as the main model image ‘Lady GAGA’ has a unique style therefore by using the dull colour scheme is in contrast. However, her light purple hair has been used around the magazine to link directly to the main image.

-Target Audience: The target audience for this magazine
Is mainly directed at probably music fans as it includes
Stories that the audience are probably interested in, one magazine includes ‘How she writes pop hits’

Main Image:
The main image is of the music icon ‘lady gaga’ Who is known for her different styles of music, here she is wearing black clothing looking like she is trying to match the magazine, then she has a pop of colour which is her hair which is very eye catching. Then her hand is wearing some eye catching unusual jewellery which with the hair brings out her uniqueness. Her lack of clothing this could relate to the sell line which says ‘why doesn’t she wear pants’ However; this could be simply to draw in the reader.

The sell line:
The sell line 'Lady Gaga' is in large bold writing with the colour being black matching with the  colour scheme and its the same as the 'billboard' illustrating its as important as the magazine title. It's also next to the models light purple hair, making her stand out even more, therefore the audience know its lady gaga.

THIRD DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

-The Main headline: This is found on the left of this double page spread, this also where the text is for this article. The font of this is representing what the words are saying as the word 'Fiercely' is in bold, white. Where as creative is in a none creative font. Both of these words still stand out in comparison to the rest of the article, they are nicely clear on the graduated dark pink background.

-The Caption: In the top right hand corner this is for the article, and says 'Woman of the year' This tells the reader that the article is going to be about a woman who is most likely famous and very important. The bold white writing stands out against the dark grey background so it is easy spotted by the reader and informs straight away on what it is about.

-Writing columns: There are two writing columns in the article, they're located on the left hand side this is because a lot of writing can feel very intimidating making people lazy to reading it, whereas here people can read it without thinking its too much. It could be the first thing people see and get put off so it's important it makes good for people to pick it up.

-The Colour Scheme: The colour of the article is very mixed and different, the gradient of dark pink to a slight grey on the left then makes the dark grey look good with it on the right, also the use of the white onto these dark colours makes it easy to see the articles and stands out the title well onto this background.

-The Main Image: is placed on the right hand page and takes up the whole page. This is because when the reader turns the page The Model is what they see first, so they know the article is automatically about her, it also reduces the writing. In the image the model Beyonce has very statement makeup on as well as her dramatic costume, her dark eyes relate to the 'Fiercely' title on the double page, as well as her metal looking costume in the head shot.

Second double page spread anaylsis

Colour scheme doesn't just relate to the artists and readers but to the main features of the NME magazine. The red texts have been used to match with the artists clothing also once again keeping it consistent, this is valuable to the magazine.

-Language: The language in this magazine is simple and basic for the readers. and parts are written in slang. This is because the magazine is aimed at students and teenagers so use of language is super important to relate to the aimed audience, It also captures what the artist is allowing the reader to relate to her and makes the article more personal.

-The Pull quote and Cover title- In this magazine the pull quote takes up most of the double page spread this addressing the idea that they want to capture the influence of the audience, and want to capture the readers attention on this quote alone. The letters in this pull quote are cut outs of a newspaper, giving the double page spread a rustic and reckless vibe. The design of the pull quote with the contrast of colours attract the reader to reading the quote, although it also gives attitudes to the conventional colours NME read may usually wear. As familiar readers of NME are often associated with Dark and simple colours. Also different font sizes address to the reader due to not all readers fit into this stereotype. These are all conventional features which are used to mirror typical layout magazine yet also relate to the target audience.

-Caption: The caption says Lily Allen at the top making it clear the Picture is of Lily Allen if people did now recognise.

-Main Image: This is a Mid shot of Lily Allen, this shows the reader who they are reading about and if they didn't know her name is in the caption. The model is wearing black, white and red this is relating to the colour scheme throughout. This mid shot of Lily Allen is used to capture her top held of her body, this showing her turned up wrists, her hands her hips showing she is portraying a 'reckless' attitude to the magazine. This shot also displays her tattoos also showing her rebellious side, which readers of this certain magazine could relate to. She is also starring at the camera (direct contact) this allows a connection between the reader and her.

-Masthead: The Masthead of this page being 'The Gospel according to 'Nicki Minaj' covers the entirety of the double page. The artists name is in a simple, bold font which is a darker pink than the background to yet again stand out, where as the lettering on top of this looks like its hand written.

-Style: The overall style of this double page is vibrant and exciting, its created by the bold image used in contrast with the bright colours. This spread is taken NME magazine which is not usually known for this mainstream pop artists, making the style of this magazine different from the rest of NME's magazines, which could put its familiar audience off. The first letter of the start of the writing at the bottom left shows where the article starts otherwise it would be unclear due to the writing filling all sections of the article.

The artist is also wearing bold, unique costume jewellery this highlights her style and her exciting tone to the page. The image also has direct mode of address towards the reader, which would entice the reader and creates a dramatic tone and uniqueness to the picture.

-Text content: The layout of this double spread has many different sections, each discussing a different topic. This is most likely to appeal to a younger age range. As they ill not want to read large amounts of text. The certain quote in the magazine have been pulled out of the article and have been made bigger in font and light lighted this attracts the reader to read that certain part of the article where as if it was small people wouldn't notice it and read on, this is a good tactic to keep the reader interested.

-Colour Scheme: The main colours of this double page, are pink, black and white. The pink gives the page an extremely girly and female look unlike the other NME magazines ,this would certainly attract this stereotypical audience, who are interested in this particular artists music and style, This is  mostly set for the 'pop music' genre of music, The black and pink contrasts  well with each other and allows all the text to stand out.

-Design: The design of this magazine double spread is informal, but gives a fun exciting outlook. Even though the text is structured effectively there is also no balance and the image is placed more to the right changing the position of the text creatively.

Also the two parts of red, one being her skirt the other being the mushroom makes the audience link the two together. Her black hair then also links to the jet black contents at the top of the page.

SECOND RESEARCH CONTENTS

-Main Image: The woman in the contents page is the same from the front cover, in this she is in a different pose, laying down with her legs in the air wearing some bold heels, showing her legs that take over most of the page giving her a real statement and rebel side to the magazine. The main image being against a gradient black to white background makes the woman stand out but also match with the colours of the magazine due to her wearing all white. These colours also give a professional look, which portrays a sleek look throughout the magazine.

-Background: The background is Black, grey and white making the magazine look modern and makes the contents stand out. The use of props in this gives an interesting look to the magazine and the shoes in this contents cover part of the word contents showing the central pictures dominance over this page.

-The Title 'Contents' : This is consistent style VIBE uses for their contents page, making the magazine recognisable. The layout is the word 'contents' split into three lines, this adds a edgy look to the magazine, once again in a sleek style.
-Keywords: are highlighted in bold on the contents page, this feature is greatly used in this magazine. Due to it being easy for the reader to point out key points without having to search for what they're looking for in the magazine. This technique also means more readers will want to read the magazine because it's easy to find things and there doesn't have to be too much reading.

-The Masthead: An alternative to other contents pages as they usually copy a smaller version of the magazine masthead from the front cover, however VIBE has an outlined and large ‘V’. With the word ‘contents’ in bold characters the focus master head is taken away but in replacement there are large letters reminding us its Vibe they’re reading.

-The Contents List style: Once again a pretty basic style, the contents list being a straight line being straight to the point, being separated into two columns. This makes the magazine easy to read and understand the features found in the magazine. This is once again sticking to the 'house style' this magazine tries to create, keeping it a edgy and professional look. They do this by not making their magazines too colourful, keeping their contents looking mature and serious, therefore readers with then take this approach when reading vibes magazines. With the contents list comes two subheadings followed by page numbers and a summary of what is on that specific page. This also comes with highlighted keywords, making important information able to see without reading the whole contents.

-Layout: This layout is very basic but gives a great look over all, using the rule of thirds to keep the text to the right third of the page. The layout allows everything on the page to be clear and readable, giving it great structure, very much like the front cover.
